Team Nigeria boxing will consolidate on their achievement in Ghana- Coach Olaleyin

Coach of Team Nigeria boxing at the just concluded 13th African Games in Ghana, Adura Olaleyin said that they’ll consolidate on the achievement recorded in Ghana and move the game to a higher pedestal.

Nigerian boxing team won eight gold and two silver medals at the Games.
This achievement comes at a time when amateur boxing in Nigeria seemed to be on the decline and the American based boxing Coach believes consolidating on the result will take the country back to it’s golden era when it ruled the pugilist game in the contineLovent with good showings both at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
According to him, kudos must go to all the club coaches, the national team coaches, the Federation, the Secretary and the boxers themselves for the wonderful achievement.

“This achievement is evidence of the hard work put in by the coaches, boxers, officials, and technical crew . It is a proud moment for Nigerian boxing and a beacon of hope for the future of the sport in the country.

” The record we set has never happened before in the history of African Games. Although Kenya some years back did a similar thing but in their own case they won 8 gold and 2 bronze but we surpassed them with 2 silver.

” I’m highly excited with what we’ve been doing in boxing. Eight years ago in Congo Brazaville, we came back with 4 gold and 2 silver and in Morocco, we won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze and the present achievement shows that we’re progressing and we’ll try and consolidate on that”, he assured.

On the Olympic qualifiers in Thailand, he was optimistic that Nigerian boxers will give a good account of themselves and pick qualification for Paris, France Olympics.

” All the boxers going for the qualifiers are fully prepared. But you know after the African Games, we have to give them some time to rest before inviting them to camp but I believe they’re ready and know what’s at stake”, he concluded.
