Thrilling Matches Mark Opening Day of NUGA Volleyball Event

The volleyball event at the ongoing Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) officially served off yesterday with thrilling encounters that set the tone for what promises to be an exciting tournament.
In the opening match, the host team made a bold statement of intent with a commanding 3–0 victory over the University of Maiduguri.
The hosts exhibited outstanding teamwork, composure, and tactical precision, much to the delight of the enthusiastic home supporters who filled the stands with chants and applause.
The day’s second fixture proved to be the most captivating contest, as Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, secured a convincing 3–0 win over the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE).
Despite the straight-set scoreline, the game was fiercely competitive, with both teams showcasing resilience, strategy, and skill.
OAU’s superior coordination and experience ultimately made the difference, earning the match the accolade of “Best Game of the Day.”
Distinguished guests who graced the event included Mrs. Bolcit Barshep-Amakiri and Mr. Godspower Odedede, both board members of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), alongside the Chairman of the Plateau State Volleyball Association and other notable sports personalities.
Their presence added colour and prestige to the opening ceremony and proceedings.
As the tournament continues today, fans and participants eagerly anticipate more electrifying matches, as University teams from across the country battle for honour and supremacy in the NUGA Volleyball Championship.
