Top Teams Shine on Day 1 of National Division One Handball League

The 2025 National Division One Handball League began in thrilling fashion on Saturday at the Indoor Sports Hall, Township Stadium, Umuahia, Abia State, with Kwara, Funad Academy, Edo Dynamos and U & H Abia among the standout winners on Day 1 of the league.
In the women’s Group A opener, Kwara defeated Mindscope Academy 31–28 despite trailing 12–14 at halftime. In Group B, Funad Academy overcame Abia Valiants 27–22, pulling ahead in the second half after both sides traded leads in the opening period.
Edo Dynamos also had a strong start, beating Pyramids 23–19 in another Group B clash.
Soof Handball Club registered the highest scoring match of the day, overpowering Girl Child Academy 41–23 in Group A.
In the men’s category, Suleja Shooters edged Bayelsa United 19–18 in a tightly contested Group A encounter that was level 8–8 at halftime. In another Group A match, Mindscope Academy fell 14–22 to Kwara.
Group B action saw Vipers of Jos defeat Kutus Academy 27–18 after a dominant 14–5 first-half display, while U & H Abia beat Bendel Dynamos 26–20 to close out the day’s fixtures.
The National Division One league, which is the promotional league into the National Premier Handball League sponsored by Ardova PLC continues today.
