Taekwondo: Peter misses out on Paris  2024 Olympics officiating

Nigeria Taekwondo Referee, Thursdaline Peter will not be officiating at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Peter made the disclosure on social media handle following the selection of 26 referees by the World Taekwondo Referees Body.

She revealed that being a part of the selected Top 58 referees in the world was an honour and will forever be cherished.

The much travelled referee said, “The year 2023 and 2024 have been tremendous so far in my refereeing career. I am sure that a lot of my supporters, friends and well wishers have been looking forward to the final evaluation process and results of the 2024 Paris Olympics referee selection process and have hoped to see me officiate in Paris.

“It is heartbreaking to announce to you all that I did not make the 2024 Paris Olympics Referee Selection list after completing the evaluation. Being a part of the selected Top 58 referees in the world was an honour and I cherish every moment and thankful to World Taekwondo  for giving me this chance. 

“I am finally relieved of the pressure, mental drain (training and studying and repeated processes) and long travels but I am so full of gratitude to the Almighty God for the strength, wisdom, good health, finances and the knowledge I have garnered throughout this marathon process. Each event was a very special learning experience. 

Peter applauded the African Taekwondo Union for the support given to her throughout the journey in officiating at the Olympic Games.

She said, “I wish to use this medium again to appreciate everyone who stood firmly with me on this journey through prayers, encouragement, motivations and love.

“A huge congratulation to my colleagues who were selected to officiate at the Paris 2024 Olympics, wishing you all the best and good luck.

“A big thank you to the entire committee of the African Taekwondo Union  (AFTU) for the platform of excellence,  recognition and support.

“I have learned a lot and improved in my refereeing career and I am looking forward to more opportunities to move higher.”
