Thomas predicts brighter future for cycling

Board member Nigeria Cycling Federation, Femi Thomas says the sport is gradually gaining ground in Nigeria but more still need to be done for the country’s cyclists to measure up with international standards.
Thomas in an interview with Lagos State Television ( LTV) said there is need for both corporate bodies and the Federation to work in tandem to take Nigerian cycling to greater height.
” Quality equipment, good athletes welfare packages and regular competitions are paramount in taking cycling to greater heights in Nigeria. There is also need for partnership between the government and corporate bodies in putting in place the necessary machenaries that will improve the sports in the country, “he said
Femi Thomas who is an ex-cyclist stated that ‘Team Nigeria’ are already in camp perfecting strategies for the world championship billed for August, 3, 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland.
‘Team Nigeria has been in camp for over two months in Abuja preparing for the world championship. The Federation is doing all within it’s power to ensure the country does well in Glasgow “, he stressed
He hinted that plans are on to organise a cycling tournament to celebrate the first 100 days in office of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, the championship will also highlight the numerous achievements of the President in sports when he was Governor of Lagos State
“The championship we’re planning will be a good opportunity for every organisation to promote and project their brands. It will also open up Nigeria for foreign investors to come in and invest in the country
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a lover of sports and he showed it during his time as Governor of Lagos State and that’s why it’s necessary we organise the competition to commemorate his first 100 days in office”, he concluded.
