Two Nigerian athletes crash out of World Athletics Championships on opening day

Two Nigerian athletes Chioma Onyekwere-Lyons and Obiageri Pamela Amaechi crashed out of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan on Day 1.

Obiageri Pamela Amaechi was the first to bid Tokyo bye-bye as her best throw of 55.69m which was her first attempt kept her in the 16th position which was not good enough to make the final cut.

Her throw was almost 12m metres off the leader, Sandra Elkasević with a throw of 66.72m.

Dutch women Alida Van Daalen picked the last ticket to the final with a throw of 62.65m.

The next member of Team Nigeria to fall out of the Tokyo World Championships was national record holder Chioma Onyekwere-Lyons in the first hurdle.

The 31 year old Chioma Onyekwere-Lyons’s, threw 59.45m in her first attempt, her two subsequent throws were bad.

It’s instructive to note that Chioma Onyekwere-Lyons and Obiageri Pamela Amaechi throws are a far cry from their Season Best of their best this year.

Obiageri Pamela Amaechi SB is 64.80m while Chioma Onyekwere-Lyons best is 64.12m and 64.96m is the national record she is in custody of.
