Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev Alfred Adewale-Martins has charged christians not to allow Covid-19 deny them the joy of Christmas.
The cleric in his homily during the Christmas Vigil Mass at Holy Cross Cathedral said this is a season when Christians need not be sorrowful or depressed irrespective of the hardship in the country.
He said at Christmas Christians need to be joyful since as scripture stated in Isaiah 9:6 …”For to us a child is born…and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Rev Adewale-Martins however said for any follower of Christ to enjoy the joy of Christmas, Jesus who was born on Christmas Day must be born in the persons heart.
In his words…”To enjoy the joy of Christmas, Christ must be born in our hearts, Christmas would be of no value unless we allow Christ to be born in our hearts. We must not allow ourselves to be separated from God due to sin.”
Continuing he said…”Two things we must do at Christmas are…First, to hate sin and avoid doing things that displeases God and secondly we must as Christians do the same works that Christ did in the world.”
He stressed that Christ who is God had to come to the world becoming man to save mankind.
He charged Christians to show love wherever they are insisting that Christian life should be all about reaching out and touching the lives of other people.
