By Ifeanyi Eduzor

President of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C ) Dr. Rafiu Ladipo  says the board under his watch has raised the standard of professional boxing in the country even as he assured that efforts are being made to ensure the country’s fighters are rated by the various world boxing bodies.

He told our correspondent yesterday that in the last two to three years, the board has raised the standard of the game with many promoters organising fights on regular basis which was not the case in the past

” The NBB of C is really trying in raising standard of professional boxing in the country. You’ll recall that in 2022, World Boxing Federation declared a Nigerian, Taiwo Agbaje A.K.A Isepo as it’s best boxer. One of his fights was here at the Tafawa Balewa Square ( TBS) against an opponent from Thailand and he did very well.

” Another of our boxer by name Scorpion is presently fighting in Japan and has fought five times; winning all. They’re also other Nigerian boxer doing well all over the world because of the good foundation NBB of C under my watch has laid and we’ll continue to do our best”, noted Ladipo who doubles as President General of Nigeria Football Supporters Club.

He expressed optimism that it will not going to take too long before the country will produce world champions in various weight categories.

” With the solid foundation we’ve put in place, very soon many of our fighters will be ranked by the various world boxing bodies and once that’s done, we’ll be talking of having world champions in many weight categories”, he concluded.
