Victorious Lagos Scrabble Team Presents Trophies To Sports Commission DG Fatodu

 

Victorious members of the Lagos Team to the 2024 National Scrabble Festival held in Ijebu-Ode,Ogun State have presented their trophies to the Director General of the Lagos Sports Commission Lekan Fatodu.

 

Current African champion Enoch Nwali won the Asaph Zadok individual title and was decorated with the iconic Green Jacket while Pyramid Scrabble Club got to the peak of the Inter-Club Challenge.

 

The club chaired by Charles Osadolor consists of Ayomiposi Akinfemisoye, John Ayedun, Olawale Ogedengbe and Adegboyega Akintokun.

 

Others also present at the ceremony were Akeem Oreagba, Oghasaede Omijeh and Femi Ade Wahab.

 

2023 African Games Scrabble side event winner John Ayedun was also met the DG.

 

Fatodu while addressing the visiting contingent, underlined the pride and the rippling effects their success at the festival will have on the overall sports development drive of the state.

 

As a sign of appreciation, he promised to host the mind games players at a reception in their honour at an agreed date.

 

He said the game which helps in strategic thinking, planning and academic development holds so much promise for the vast young population of the state.

 

Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association (LASSMA) Chairman,

Dipo Akanbi who led the team to victory as a player and an administrator to the championship acknowledged the DG for welcoming them to his office with open arms while also recognising their efforts.

 

He highlighted the support from the state and the contributions of the association at ensuring that talents even at a tender age are discovered and develop more future winners just like the African champion Nwali was discovered during this secondary school days.

 

‘This victories in the Asaph Zadok National championship in both the individual won by African champion Enoch Nwali and our Inter-Club Challenge success by the Pyramid Scrabble Club weren’t easy. But we thank the everyone who made it possible especially Lagos State Sports Commission for always giving us the avenue to express ourselves in this sport.

Scrabble wields so much promise. It is a unique game which is good at developing the players intellectually, socially and academically. We are presenting these trophies to you in appreciation of the support you have been providing for us.’

 

 

It would be recalled that 10 states including Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Delta, Osun, Bayelsa, Kwara, Rivers and the FCT Abuja participated int he Scrabble Festival.
