Odebode emerges President of Paralympic Committee

The two-day Elective congress of the
Paralympic Committee Nigeria (PCN) has ended in Asaba, Delta State with Sunday Odebode emerging as the new President.
Held on Monday 15 may 2023, Odebode, a seasoned Sports administrator who contested on the platform of Para Table Tennis, pulled 12 out of the total 19 votes cast to defeat three other contestants to emerge victorious.
Paul Maduakor, President , Amputtee football Federation pulled 5 votes, Charles Ezenwanne, Powerlifting President had only 2 votes while Commissioner of Police (CP), Anderson Bankole, Para Table Tennis, had no vote.
In other elected offices, Shodipo Ayinde Lateef (Tennis) was elected unopposed as 1st vice president while Flora Ugwunwa(Para Athletics) also emerged unopposed as the 2nd vice president.
The incumbent Secretary General, Issah Suleiman retained his position as he got 11 votes as against 8 votes pulled by his opponent, Kayode Ladele( President, Sitting Volleyball), to be re-elected as the Secretary General of the body
Douglas Agbado was elected unopposed as Assistant Secretary General while Hon. Etti Olawale( President, Para Athletics) had 12 votes as against the 7 votes pulled by Hon Amobi Chikwendu Emmanuel( President Para Swimming) to emerge as treasurer.
Silver Ezeikpe, representing the South East region was also elected into the board.
The newly elected board was immediately sworn in by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development(FMYD)(Lawyer/Legal adviser
In his acceptance speech , the newly elected President , Sunday Odebode, said he will involve the private sector in the running of the affairs of the committee as well as run an all inclusive administration
Meanwhile, the Minister of Sports , Sunday Dare, while inaugurating the board said his Ministry believes so much in Para Sports which was why he came personally to inaugurate the board and advised that they should hit the ground running immediately especially as the Paris 2024 Paralympic qualifies is already in top gear.
