Westmont 2025: World Records Fall as Douglass, McKeown, O’Callaghan and Smith Shine at Swimming World Cup
The second stop of the 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup concluded in spectacular fashion in Westmont, Illinois, with four World Records performances across three unforgettable days. American Kate Douglass thrilled the home crowd with a 50.19 in the 100m freestyle to break the World Record and secure the overall win in Westmont on Sunday night.
Australia’s Kaylee McKeown added another historic swim, lowering the 200m backstroke world record to 1:57.87 in a gripping duel with Regan Smith. Fellow Australian Mollie O’Callaghan became the first woman ever under 1:50 in the 200m freestyle (1:49.77), while American Regan Smith equalled her own previous World Record of 54.02 in the 100m backstroke. Lani Pallister, Regan Smith and Gretchen Walsh each broke World Cup records earlier in the meet.
On the men’s side, Hungary’s Hubert Kos extended his unbeaten streak in the backstroke, and American Shaine Casas claimed three IM titles. With one stop remaining in Toronto, the overall crowns remain up for grabs, setting up a thrilling finale to the 2025 World Cup circuit.
