NPFL: Why Abia Warriors had a bad start -Egbe

By George Aluo

The Chief Executive Officer of Monimichelle, Ebi Egbe has blamed the poor start of Abia Warriors to the season on the contrasting faces of the pitches in Umuahia and Aba.

It would be noted that the Umuahia based Abia Warriors were forced to play their home games in Aba, no thanks to the poor state of the Umuahia stadium turf.

The Imama Amakapabo tutored side not only lost their first two home games but failed to pick a point after four games before managing an away draw last week in Nnewi against FC IfeanyiUbah.

Egbe while bemoaning Warriors poor start said there was no way the team would have found their rhythm at the Enyimba Stadium, given the nature of their Umuahia home ground.

“That Abia Warriors lost their games in Aba has nothing to do with Aba people not wishing them well or working against them…that is far from the truth. Their major problem was the fact that they were training on a bad surface in Umuahia only to play on a smooth lush green turf at the Enyimba Stadium. Adaptation on match day becomes a problem. That is why their opponents caught them napping.

My appeal is for the Abia state government to upgrade the Umuahia stadium turf and bring it to the standard of Enyimba which my company, Monimichelle had the privilege of constructing.”

Egbe said he is happy the Pastor Emeka Inyama led Abia Warriors management did not press the panic button by sacking Imama, even as he insisted that Warriors would bounce back to league reckoning.

Abia Warriors has since secured LMC’s nod to move out of Aba and play their subsequent home games at the Okigwe Township stadium in neighboring Imo state.
