Yuletide : Ex-Imo lawmaker distributes palliative to 960 women, students

The immediate past representative of Ngor Okpala state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Okenze Blyden Amajirionwu, has gifted bags of rice and cash worth N25million to 960 indigent women and SS3 students in his constituency.
Amajirionwu presented the palliatives to the selected beneficiaries Friday in a well-attended ceremony held at his home country, Uvuru Ntu in Ngor Okpala LGA.
Speaking at the occasion, Okenze Amajirionwu stated that the gesture was his token of appreciation to God for his mercies and passion to bring succour to the less-privileged in the area.
He categorically declared that the gesture was purely philanthropy and has no political undertone or strings attached as this is not an election season nor has he any ambition to contest election soonest.
The former lawmaker explained that the rice is to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship on Indigent families who can hardly afford to buy rice for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
He stressed that the N25,000 cash to each of the 360 students is for WAEC registration and warned the beneficiaries not to divert the fund into other frivolous undertakings.
His words, “What I am disbursing today is from my hard-earned money as an individual. I am not doing it for political reasons because there is no election now and I am not contesting in the near future.
“All I am doing is my modest way of thanking God for his blessings, even as I am not in public office as well as a demonstration of my passion to support our indigent families, especially during this yuletide.”
He used the occasion to pour glowing encomiums on Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, who he described as his benefactor and the man behind the hosting of the event as well thanked the organizing committee for a job well done in selecting the right beneficiaries and making the event a reality pointing out that he would endeavour to make it an annual event in order to touch more lives.
Barr. George Ekenwoko, Chief Bona Nlemadim and Dr. Perry Njoku, in their separate speeches commended Hon. Amajirionwu for his magnanimity describing him as “a good spirited, illustrious son of the LGA and urged other privileged indigenes the area to emulate his gesture.”
Also speaking, the Chairman, Ngor Okpala Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Fredrick O. Nwachukwu of Ngor Autonomous Community, on behalf of the council, applauded the humanitarian aid provided to the people by the former lawmaker and prayed for more blessings upon him.
Eze Nwachukwu announced the donation of the sum of N1million by the royal fathers to augment Okenze Amajirionwu’s palliative to the women and SS3 students.
In the same vein, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, a prominent son of Ngor Okpala added the sum of N2million to complement what the beneficiaries will take home from the event and commended the donor for the gesture.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Pet Ekeh from Umuoye Imerienwe, two students; Benedict Agulanna, Victoria Nkwo of Umuhu Comprehensive Secondary School, and Rapid Comprehensive Secondary School, Umualum Ngor respectively thanked Amajirionwu for coming to their aid.
The students prayed for his continued success in his endeavours and promised not to disappoint him in the coming 2025 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, SSCE.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of the gift items to the 960 beneficiaries drawn from all communities in the eleven wards of Ngor Okpala LGA.
