2027: Anambra threatened by Obi’s popularity – NDC

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Anambra State Government and officials of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) of becoming increasingly concerned over the growing popularity of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party made the allegation while reacting to recent political comments circulating online, which it said were aimed at discouraging Anambra residents from supporting Obi and the NDC.Access Services

Theo Abu Agada, the NDC Director of New Media and Strategic Communications described the campaign against Obi as an attempt by political opponents to create fear and portray the former Anambra State governor’s 2027 presidential ambition as a threat to APGA.

According to the party, some pro-government social media platforms had urged voters in Anambra to reject the NDC, arguing that supporting Obi would amount to betraying APGA, the party under which he previously served as governor of the state.

The online messages reportedly portrayed Obi’s political movement as an attempt to weaken or dismantle the party that provided the platform for his emergence as governor.Follow Politics

Agada, reacting to the claims, dismissed the argument as political blackmail and alleged that the growing support for Obi across Anambra and other parts of the country had unsettled the state government and APGA.

“It is now clear, even to the blind, that the Anambra State Government is threatened by the growing popularity of our presidential candidate, H.E. Peter Obi, and the NDC in Anambra State and beyond,” Agada said.

He further alleged that the opposition to Obi was driven by concerns over his political influence rather than a genuine disagreement with his record.

Agada said the NDC remained confident of making significant gains in Anambra during the 2027 elections, while accusing Governor Chukwuma Soludo and APGA supporters of resorting to what he described as “cheap blackmail” because, in his view, they could not effectively challenge Obi on his governance record.

“The NDC is going to win big in Anambra, and there is nothing Soludo and his minions in APGA can do about it,” he added.

The latest exchange adds to the growing political activity in Anambra ahead of the 2027 general elections, with supporters of different political parties increasingly trading claims over their candidates’ popularity and prospects.

The NDC’s comments also come amid renewed efforts by political actors to consolidate support across the state, particularly as Obi remains a major political figure in Anambra and the wider South-East.

The allegations by the NDC represent the party’s position, while the Anambra State Government and APGA may offer their own response to the claims.
