Oyo Govt Charges Sports Associations To Intensify Support For Athletes

The newly appointed Chairmen and Vice Chairmen for the Oyo State Sports Associations have been commended for their financial moral and logistics support extended to their various teams in the state.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Seun Fakorede dropped this hint today during the inauguration of the membership of Oyo State Sports Associations held at the Main Bowl of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

While addressing the stakeholders at the inauguration ceremony, the Commissioner remarked that the technical, logistic and financial support given to the various Teams by their Associations have contributed immensely to the victories recorded during the national and international tournaments including the last National Sports Festival held in Edo State wherein the State came fifth.

Hon. Fakorede stated further that the State Government will continue to solicit for the unalloyed and unflinching support of the leaders and members of the Associations in repositioning and overhauling the Sports Sector in Oyo State since the government cannot provide all the needs of the athletes.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council, Honourable Gbenga Adewusi “Arole” remarked that the selection of these personalities to serve as Chairmen and members of the various Associations was based on their significant contributions to the development of Sports and their ingenuity towards motivating the athletes to achieve greater heights.

The President of Nigeria Judo Federation and Chairman Oyo State Judo Association, DR Musa Oshodi who responded on behalf of newly inaugurated members of Oyo State Sports Associations expressed words of appreciation for the honour bestowed on them to lead their various associations.

He pledged that they will not relent in their efforts to ensure that our athletes record outstanding achievements. He however solicited further encouragement of the athletes through provision of modern equipment and state of the arts facilities that will propel them to excel in their various chosen pastimes.

Also speaking with the newsmen after the inauguration, the newly appointed Chairman for the Badminton Association in the state, HRH Oba Olatunde Oginni promised a new lease of life for the badminton sport with numerous new innovations lined up to transform the sport.

The Royal father also charges the athletes that will be representing the state in the badminton sport to go for gold while promising an instant incentive for any badminton athlete that wins medals at the Asaba 2022 that will get underway in a few weeks.

Amongst the Chairmen inaugurated are ex-champions in the national and international competition, accomplished, professionals sportsmen and women and philanthropists like Chief Mrs Obakin, Mr Tokunbo James, Dr Musa Oshodi, Hon Abayomi Fagbenro, Dr Adeyemi, Dr Alo Richard, Dr Adesoji Adetayo, His Royal Highness Oba Olatunde Oginni, MR Sefiu Iyiola, Engineer ‘Tunde Babatunde, Mr Iredele Ogunbayo, Engineer Ndubusi Okorie and so on.
