Lagos agog for Legacy sitting volleyball championship

The indoor sports hall of National Stadium Surulere Lagos came alive Friday as the two day maiden Legacy sitting volleyball championship for special athletes kicked off at the venue.
Organised by Legacy basketball club in conjunction with Nigeria Sitting Volleyball Federation,/ Lagos State Sports Commission , it afforded the players the opportunity of testing their skills in the game which kept spectators off their seats as the matches lasted.
In the first match of the day, ” Team Lagos defeated Legacy team by 2-0 of. 25- 11 and. 25-15 while. Bayelsa beat National Para. Sports Festival gold medallist, Kaduna by 2-1 of. 26-24 , 15-25. and 15-9 in the most entertaining encounter of the day with Legacy team also losing their second game to Kaduna by 2-0. of. 25-16. and 25-5 in what could be described as a one sided match,
Speaking to our correspondent shortly after the games, sponsor of the tournament who also doubles as Chairman of Legacy Basketball Club, Kayode Ladele said the competition is being organised as part of efforts to develop sitting basketball in the country as well as make people realise that there is ability in disability just as he promised to make it an annual event expressing hope that next year’s edition will involve many states of the Federation.
” This championship is being put together in order to further develop the game and afford the players the opportunity of improving their form in sitting basketball. We have plans of making it an annual event and hopefully in subsequent editions teams from the 36 states of the Federation will be invited to be part of the tournament which will hope will open doors for them.
‘ You know this sport features at the Paralympic Games and I want to see Nigeria feature in the game and that’s why am appealing to corporate organisations to partner with us to make this tournament bigger as it will be of immense benefit to not only our players but the country “,he said
The championship will be rounded up today Saturday, June 18 with three matches to be decided at the same venue.
