Monday night was not a good one in the Team Nigeria weightlifting camp as Joy Ogbonne Eze failed to shine in the women’s 64 kg category.
Eze after fumbling in the snatch failed to get her lifts right in the clean and jerk a situation that saw her losing out of the medals race.
The Abia state born lifters was simply inconsolable as she shed tears at the NEC arena. All efforts by the Nigerian weightlifting officials to stop her from crying proved abortive as she was visibly shattered.
“I m pained, very pained she said while sobbing. I was expecting people to be congratulating me and not to be consoling me,” she said while being led away by the secretary of Nigeria weightlifting federation.
Joy Ogbonne Eze it is recalled won a gold medalist in the women’s 64 kg event at both the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco and the 2021 African Weightlifting Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.
