Ultimate amputee football challenge holds September, 16

Arrangement has been concluded for the maiden edition of a novelty football match tagged ‘ Ultimate Amputee Football Challenge which will take place on Friday, September, 16 at the Paddington mini stadium behind Stadium Hotel, Surulere, Lagos.
Coordinator of the tournament, Ugochukwu Obieze told our correspondent that the game which kicks off at 2pm will see two teams Phoenex ( All Best Cagoes) taking on Diamond FC A.K.A Zenith Sports in a novelty match aimed at popularizing the game as well as show casing the abundant talents of the country’s amputee footballers.
” We’re organising the exhibition match to keep the players in top form and show Nigerians that there is ability in disability and for them to also know that we have quality players who can do the country proud at international competitions.
” You’re aware that many of us have represented the country at the African and Amputee Football World Cup respectively and there is need to make Nigerians realise that we are still very much around and need their support and financial backing to excel.
Obieze assured that the players are all ready for action and eager to entertain fans with their football artistry just as he appealed to corporate Nigeria to support the development of amputee football as is done in other climes.
” All the players have been training and looking forward to the championship and I want to assure you there won’t be any dull moment throughout the duration of the game. I want football fans to troop out in their hundreds and cheer the players and they won’t be disappointed coming to the venue.
” My appeal is for governments at all levels and corporate organisations in the country to extend moral and financial support to amputee football and I can assure you we won’t disappoint”, he stated.
Speaking in the same vein, one of the top key players, Nnanna Nwakpa appealed for private support to the new board of Nigeria Amputee Football Federation headed by Paul Maduakor who also doubles as Managing Director of Zenith Sports as he put plans on ground to reposition the game.
” The new president of the Federation and his board members have mapped out some noble ideas on how to move the game forward but he needs the support of all to succeed and I’m quite sure that with adequate support from all Nigerians, amputee football in the country will achieve enormous success”, he concluded
