Finalists emerge in Bishop Mike Okonkwo football championship

The curtain is gradually drawing on the ongoing annual Bishop Mike Okonkwo football championship with the finalists emerging in both the male and female categories .
In an entertaining semi-final matches played at the Legacy Pitch of the National Institute For Sports (NIS) Lagos, Sam Jasson Fc defeated Opopo Oba Iwamumo by 4-2 penalties after their game ended 1-1 at regulation time to book a final ticket in the tournament while in the second semi-final match Team 360 recorded another 4-2 penalty victory over Cats Fc after playing a 1-1 draw at full time.
In the female category, Phoenix defeated Dynamic Queens by 4-0 while Young Talents FC beat Nakamura by 5-4 penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw at full time.
Speaking on the championship, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor commended all the teams for exhibiting high sense of discipline from the kick off date to the last four games charging the finalists to embrace fair play as they go into the finals of the biggest grassroots football tournament in the country.
“I’m happy that this year’s edition is gradually coming to an end and I want to commend the teams for their excellent performance and conduct from the beginning of the competition to the semi-final stage
“It’s equally important I remind them to maintain that level of discipline till the end even as he announced that ex- Super Eagles’ player, Ifeanyi Ekwueme will lead other ex- internationals to grace the finals slated for September, 2 at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos
The tournament which is sponsored by the presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREAM) Bishop Mike Okonkwo is also used to celebrate the birthday of the Man of God.
