Nigeria’s promising star who recorded a personal best of 9:90 seconds in the 100metres Godson Oghenebrume has been sentenced to 27 months in a federal prison in the United States of America.
Oghenebrume was sentenced after he was convicted of for possession of a firearm and shooting same during a domestic dispute with his baby mama on February 7 last year.
According to and x handle @Trackgazette which narrated the development, the Delta State-born sprinter could face deportation after serving time.
“Nigerian sprinter and former LSU standout Godson Brume has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison, followed by possible deportation or removal from the United States.
The 23-year-old was convicted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for possessing a firearm while being admitted to the U.S. under a non-immigrant F-1 student visa, stemming from an incident on February 7, 2025.
Oghenebrume, the 2024 SEC 100m champion and owner of a 9.90s Personal Best, was arrested after allegedly discharging a Glock 43X 9mm pistol multiple times during a domestic dispute at his apartment complex.
Based on the complaint that preceded the indictment, on the night of February 7, 2025, Oghenebrume was in his apartment when an ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his infant child, arrived at the apartment with the baby. Oghenebrume, who had been in the apartment with another young woman, went outside, and an argument ensued between him and the mother of his child. During this argument, and while the baby was present, Oghenebrume discharged the firearm.
Oghenebrume went back into his apartment. Sometime thereafter, Oghenebrume’s ex-girlfriend opened his apartment door and observed Oghenebrume and the other young woman in the living room, and she and Oghenebrume began to argue. That argument spilled out of the apartment, and Oghenebrume discharged the firearm more times as the mother of his child fled. Multiple bullet strikes were observed in the walls of the apartment complex.”
