Bibowei Appreciates Igali for Daily Check-Up on Team Bayelsa
The Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Bibowei Lambert, has expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Igali, for his continued attention and support towards Team Bayelsa in Calabar, Cross River State.
Bibowei described Igali’s commitment to the welfare of the state’s athletes and officials as inspirational, noting that the Commissioner’s regular follow-up has provided additional motivation for the contingent competing in the ongoing South-South zonal eliminations.
Speaking with journalists in Calabar, Bibowei acknowledged the daily care and concern demonstrated by the Commissioner since Team Bayelsa departed Yenagoa for the competitions.
According to him, Igali has consistently checked on the team’s wellbeing, making enquiries about the athletes, coaches, and officials and ensuring that any emerging concerns are promptly communicated and addressed.
He said the Commissioner’s regular contact with the contingent had made the team feel valued, adding that such gestures go beyond administrative responsibility and demonstrate genuine commitment to the development of sports in the state.
Bibowei described Igali’s approach as motivating and inspiring, stressing that athletes perform with greater confidence when they know that the leadership of the state is interested in their welfare and progress.
“I want to sincerely appreciate the Honourable Commissioner, Daniel Igali, for the consistent attention he has given to Team Bayelsa. Since our arrival in Calabar, he has remained in constant contact, checking on the welfare of our athletes, coaches, and officials.
“This level of commitment is highly encouraging and shows that he is deeply concerned about the success and well-being of the team.” He said.
The Director of Sports disclosed that Igali had repeatedly informed him that Governor Douye Diri was particularly interested in the wellbeing of Team Bayelsa, hence the deliberate attention being given to the contingent throughout its campaign in Calabar
He said the support from the Governor, through the Ministry of Sports Development, had continued to strengthen the team’s morale as Bayelsa competes for qualification spots in the National Intermediate Games and National Sports Festival.
Bibowei expressed optimism that the combined commitment of Governor Diri, his deputy Dr. Peter Akpe and Hon. Igali, as well as other stakeholders, would continue to yield positive results, assuring that Team Bayelsa would remain focused on representing the state with discipline, determination, and integrity.
“The regular calls and follow-up from the Commissioner have been a great source of motivation for us here in Calabar. It gives the athletes confidence knowing that the leadership of the ministry is constantly monitoring their welfare.
He has also made it clear that Governor Douye Diri is interested in the team’s wellbeing, and that has encouraged us to give our very best.”
“What Commissioner Igali is doing goes beyond simply supervising the competition. His daily communication and concern for the team demonstrate purposeful leadership. When athletes know that their welfare matters to those in charge, it gives them the confidence and determination to compete with pride and represent Bayelsa State positively.” Bibowei added.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, September 13, Bayelsa State’s basketball team secured qualification for the national showpiece, providing an early boost to the state’s campaign in the zonal eliminations.
Attention now shifts to the other team sports, as Bayelsa’s football, volleyball and beach volleyball teams are expected to continue the push for qualification on Monday, with the contingent hopeful of following the basketball team’s trajectory.
