HFN President Jibril Saidu Ojih Marks One Year in Office, Reaffirms Commitment to Grassroots Development

President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Jibril Saidu Ojih (FNIQS), has marked his first year in office, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the structures of Nigerian handball, expanding grassroots participation and creating more opportunities for the development of the game.

Ojih, who assumed office on 25 October 2025, said the progress recorded in his first year was the result of collective efforts by athletes, coaches, referees, clubs, state associations, officials, sponsors and other stakeholders committed to the growth of handball in Nigeria.

Reflecting on the past 12 months, the HFN President highlighted continued support for the national teams, the expansion of competitions through the 4×4 and zonal championships, and efforts to improve technical development through the licensing system.

He also pointed to the adoption of MatchVision as a tool for video review and performance analysis, alongside grassroots initiatives and competitions organised by stakeholders across the country.

According to Ojih, these efforts form part of the Federation’s broader commitment to building a stronger and more competitive handball community.

He acknowledged the contributions of individuals and organisations working at different levels of the sport, noting that sustainable progress would require continued cooperation among all stakeholders.

The HFN President, however, acknowledged that more work remains to be done, particularly in expanding grassroots participation, improving the organisation of competitions and establishing a sustainable pathway for the next generation of handball players.

He expressed appreciation to the Nigerian handball family for its dedication and support during his first year in office, while urging stakeholders to remain united in the pursuit of the sport’s development.

“Together, let us build a stronger and more competitive Nigerian handball community,” Ojih said, reiterating the need for a collective approach to achieving the Federation’s objectives.

As he begins his second year in office, the HFN President is expected to continue working with relevant stakeholders to consolidate existing initiatives, strengthen the domestic handball structure and widen opportunities for players and officials across the country.
