More backroom staff good for Rohr -Ikwunze (Mr Football)

By George Aluo

Foremost Nigerian football historian, Ejikeme Ikwunze (Mr Football) has thrown his weight behind the Tuesday decision of the nation’s soccer governing body, NFF to pad Rohr’s Eagles with more backroom staff.

The NFF had after a meeting with Sports minister, Sunday Dare said they would hire a physical trainer, nutritionist, match readers and a psychologist for Eagles in a bid to get the best out of the team.

Ikwunze, a former Abia State director of sports, in a chat with newstap.com.ng said the move was a welcome development.

“With a formidable backroom staff the coaching crew would be able to panel beat a team that will fall more into the likely to win and difficult to defeat category. A team that would have an admixture of youth and experience. Rohr on his own must take a hard look at his substitutions during matches. This is an area he has to revisit,” Ikwunze stated.

Ikwunze had before the Sierra Leone home and away AFCON qualifiers warned that the Eagles can not afford to take anything for granted against the Leone Stars.

The Eagles ended up drawing 4-4 at home in Benin, only to play out another draw  (goalless) in Freetown, results which saw Nigerian football stakeholders fume with rage.
