43 Year Old Man In Police Net For Defilement of 7 Year Old Niece

One Mr. Kelechi Nwosu, a 43 year old man of Umuobi Umukam village in Obollo autonomous community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State is in the dragnet of the State Police Command for allegedly defiling his seven year- old niece, (name withheld).

The disclosure is contained in a press statement issued on Wednesday in Owerri, Imo State capital by a human rights organization, Stand For Humanity Foundation, and made available to news men including Newstap.com.ng .

The human rights organization exposed the heinous crime that prompted the Police Command to wade in and arrested the suspect who is currently been handled by the Command’s, State Criminal and Investigations Department, SCID.

Mr.Chidiebube Okeoma, who is a journalist, a child’s Rights activist and the founder and financier of the Non Governmental Organization, NGO said that his organization is committed in ensuring that the suspect faced the full wraths of the law.

Okeoma, disclosed that his organization, Stand For Humanity Foundation, collaborated with the suspect’s kinsmen and got him arrested and handed him over to Isiala Mbano Divisional Police Headquarters and they later transferred the matter to the State Police Command who assigned it to the State CID in Owerri.

The human rights activist further informed that medical investigations carried out on Tuesday at the Police clinic in Owerri revealed that the child was truly abused.

According to Okeoma, the statement by the minor to his organization and to the Police disclosed that the suspect defiled her in two separate occasions.

The statement read partly” our organization, Stand For Humanity Foundation thanks the people of Umuobi Umukam Obollo community in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State for collaborating with us to arrest Kelechi Nwosu who allegedly defiled his seven year- old sister’s daughter when everyone had left the home for the farm, last Saturday.

“By this act, the people of Umuobi Umukam Obollo community have demonstrated that they are true apostles of justice and we urge other communities in Imo State and beyond to follow their example in fighting child abuses in the society.

“We are grateful to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal and Investigations Department, Owerri for the professional commitment he has deployed since the President of our organization, Chidiebube Okeoma, reported the incest case to him.

“Medical investigations we conducted at the Police Clinic in Owerri revealed that the child private region was tampered with. There was penetration. We have also carried out medical investigations on the suspect to ascertain his health status so that the child health will be further protected.

“Under our watch, abusers of children will be made to face the full wraths of the law. Those who abuse children will continue to confront the law and our platform will continue to stand with all victims of battery, suppression and injustices.”

DSP Henry Okoye, the Command’s spokesperson disclosed that the suspect would be arraigned in court at the conclusion of their investigations.

It could be recalled that Stand For Humanity Foundation had two weeks ago facilitated the arrest of a 38 year old woman, Juliet Igwe, from Uruala in the Ideato North LGA of the State who used candlelight flames to burn the private parts of her five year old housemaid and equally dipped the child’s two hands in a boiled water until her skins peeled off.

The suspect last week was arraigned before a Magistrate Court Owerri and was subsequently remanded in Owerri Correctional center till February 5, 2026, depending on the outcome of the report of Director of Public Prosecutions, after the court agreed with the prosecutor that the offense is punishable by life imprisonment, if convicted.
