2nd NDG : Screening Committee Impressed With Young Athletes In Team Edo Camp

After a rigorous and thorough screening exercise in the camp of Team Edo on Tuesday evening,the chairman of the Screening Sub-Committee for the Niger Delta Games Mr Braveman Wodi said that he was impressed with the good number of young athletes most of whom were kids in the Camp.

The screening committee chairman re-echoed the position of Dunamis Icon Ltd on the enforcement of the rules of the game, insisting on a rigorous, pre-competition screening process across the nine participating states aimed at stamping out age cheat.

He stressed the need for total compliance by the participanting states with the rules laid down by the organizers of the regional sports fiesta Dunamis Icon Ltd.

” We have been going from state to state screening athletes for the Niger Delta Games. Today, we are in Edo to do the same thing. We had advocacy meeting with the coaches before the screening started.

“We are doing this to let participants know the importance attached to process. Dunamis Icon Ltd wants to avoid age cheat. So, we need your cooperation to ensure fairness and clean competition “. He emphasized.

” It was a robust and thorough screening exercise and we are impressed with the good number of young athletes we found here. Most of them are actually kids and that is what the organisers of the Niger Delta Games want. We want to stamp out age cheat.”

” We are sending a signal that the organisers of the Niger Delta Games are very deliberate and intentional about the war against age cheat. There would be another round of screening exercise during the games proper ” Braveman added.

Braveman said the target of the organizers of the Games is that the 2026 edition in Benin would be a significant improvement on the maiden edition in Uyo whereby truly young athletes are to be discovered and nurtured to represent Nigeria in the future.

The secretary of Edo Liaison Committee Engr. Idahosa Bright and the Director, Sports Development and Operations Pastor Osayomore Aghahowa were on hand to receive the screening committee members on their arrival in Benin.

All nine Niger Delta states are expected to participate in the second Niger Delta Games, which is being staged in Benin Edo State from February 20 to 27, 2026.
