Team Akwa Ibom to begin camping Tuesday ahead of Nigeria Delta Games

As preparations intensify for the 2nd Niger Delta Games in Edo State. Akwa Ibom state athletes from sixteen sports will spend two days at the NYSC Camp in Nsit Atai to finalise training ahead of departure on Thursday, 19 February.
Around 270 athletes have been selected to represent Akwa Ibom State at the Games, which will take place from 20 to 27 February 2026.
LThe athletes successfully underwent screening on 6 February at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, ensuring eligibility, transparency, and compliance with competition guidelines.
The State Liaison Committee, led by the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has effectively overseen the entire preparation process in line with the guidelines for the Niger Delta Games.
This process included the trials, screening, and the reception of the Festival Torch at a colourful event hosted last week by Governor Umo Eno.
The camp from 17 to 18 February will focus on improving fitness, teamwork, and overall readiness as ‘Team Akwa Ibom’ aims to surpass its performance from the maiden edition in 2025.
In that first edition, ‘Team Bayelsa’ topped the medal table with 42 gold, 29 silver, and 15 bronze medals, while host Akwa Ibom finished sixth and is looking to perform better in Edo 2026.
