Abaka charges cycling Federation on improved performance

Nigerian male cyclist , Kurotimi Abaka has called on the Nigeria Cycling Federation to do more to better the state of the sports in the country.
Kurotimi Abaka won gold in the elite cadre of the just concluded African road cycling championship in Ghana.
He also won gold in the B Class Tendam elite Male category at the championship.
The victory qualified him to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games in Paris next year.
kurotimi said that Nigerian cyclists are faced with challenges of getting standard bicycles, regular competitions and good welfare packages.
“The Nigerian cyclists would appreciate if the Federation do more to improve cycling in the country, We have talented cyclists who with adequate support can be worthy ambassadors at international tournaments.”
Meanwhile, board member , Nigeria Cycling Federation Femi Thomas said these challenges are not news to the Federation and they’re soliciting for support from corporate bodies to key into the vision of the Federation to make things better.
“The Federation is already discussing with sponsors to help in taking cycling to greater heights . We recently acquired a vehicle (Ford Ranger ) which is part of our rebranding strategy to attract sponsors.”
Femi Thomas who is an ex- athlete and doubles as the Chairman of the Ogun State Cycling Association assured that this year will be better than last year for both cyclists and officials as they have put in place programmes to improve upon their last year’s activities
” The Federation will be consolidating on the gains of last year’s programmes for a better out put in 2023.” He said
Twelve cyclists comprising 11 female and one male represented Nigeria at the 19th African Road Cycling Championships . Team Nigeria were sponsored by FT cycle care.
