Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, has appointed veteran sports journalist and former Nigeria National League (NNL) Chairman, Chief George Aluo, as Media Consultant to his office.
The appointment is part of efforts by the Presidential aide to strengthen the communication strategy of the office and enhance public awareness, stakeholder engagement and visibility for the Federal Government’s grassroots sports development programmes.
Aluo, a respected figure in Nigerian sports, brings over three decades of experience in sports journalism, media management and football administration to the new role. He has held senior editorial positions in the Nigerian media and previously served as Chairman of the NNL, where he contributed to the administration and development of the country’s second-tier football league.
Speaking on the appointment, Adeboye said Aluo’s experience across journalism, sports administration and football development made him well suited for the responsibility.
“Chief George Aluo is coming into this responsibility with enormous experience and a deep understanding of Nigerian sports. He has seen sports from the newsroom, from the administrative side and from the football development perspective. That combination of experience will be important to our work,” Adeboye said.
Adeboye stressed that effective communication would be central to the success of the Federal Government’s grassroots sports agenda, noting that the development of young sporting talents required the collective involvement of government, schools, communities, the private sector, sports federations, clubs, academies, coaches, athletes and the media.
He said Aluo’s appointment was coming at a crucial time as the office steps up stakeholder mobilisation and initiatives aimed at establishing sustainable pathways from grassroots participation to elite sports. He charged the new Media Consultant to deploy his professional network and experience in projecting the programmes and policies of the office.
In his response, Aluo thanked Adeboye for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to contribute his wealth of experience towards advancing the office’s mandate and promoting grassroots sports development across Nigeria.
Adeboye expressed confidence that the appointment would further strengthen his team and help amplify the opportunities being created for young Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
