Organizers of the Africa Youth Cup which took place last year in Cape Verde are planning big for the 2021 edition, even as they felicitate with all those who were part of the maiden edition last year.
No thanks to the Coronavirus Pandemic, this year’s edition which was to hold this summer has been cancelled, but the organizers, Serahana Sports said the tournament, God willing, would be back in 2021 bigger and better.
“Today, April 27 is precisely one year when the final of the maiden edition was played in the beautiful city of Praia at the Estadio Nacional de Cabo Verde between Volcan Junior Academie of Cote D’Ivoire and Pawas Academy of Jos, Nigeria. Volcan Junior won the tournament after an energy sapping final that ended in penalty shootout. It was a great final that did African football proud. We thank all those who were part of the maiden edition. We say a big thank you to our individual and Corporate Sponsors, the Government, Sports Ministry/Estadio Nacional, Football Federation, Olympic Committee, the municipalities, the academies that participated, volunteers, international scouts, Referee Abroad, and the Cape Verdean fans.”
Spokesperson of Serahana Sports, Godson Abba Ekadi noted that but for the global health emergency, the 2nd edition of the tournament would have been held this summer.
“We were all but set before the Coronavirus Pandemic forced a cancellation. We want to thank all our partners and pray that in 2021, the tournament would be back bigger and better,” Godson stated.
He further disclosed that Serahana Sports will commence serious work ahead of the 2021 edition as soon as the coast is clear.
“We have not gone to bed with our plans and vision for the continent. We are using the on-going global lockdown to fashion out ways aimed at making the tournament bigger and better with the inclusion of the female version. God willing, we would all be in Cape Verde in 2021 to celebrate a wonderful second edition of the tournament. Finally, we advise everyone to stay at home whenever necessary and respect all sanitary measures because we want to see everyone in good health next year” Godson stated.A
