After conquering the world in America, Spain taste glory again at FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

Łódź hosted a momentous occasion in women’s football history today as the winners of the previous two instalments of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup™, holders DPR Korea and 2022 titlists Spain, took to the pitch with one goal in mind: lifting the trophy once again at the 2026 edition.

In a thrilling contest that remained finely balanced until the final whistle, Spain emerged victorious over DPR Korea in a penalty shootout, with a final score of 4–3. With a great appearance from their goalkeeper, the European team were crowned women’s U-20 world champions in front of a loud crowd.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino was among the guests in attendance. He was joined by FIFA Chief Football Officer Jill Ellis and FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer Dame Sarai Bareman, who echoed his congratulations to the medal-winning teams on their outstanding performances throughout the tournament.

The excitement of the trophy decider followed the entertainment served up at the same venue, Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź, yesterday, when Colombia secured a third place finish in another penalty shootout. The final score against Italy was 4-3 for Colombia, following a 1-1 draw during regular time in the bronze final.
