Africa is excited about Ghana 2025 WESPA Championship bid – Haruna Adamu

The President of the Scrabble Association of Ghana (SCAG), Haruna Adamu, is very happy with the reception the Ghana 2025 World English Scrabble Players Association Championship bid is receiving across africa and beyond.
Haruna Adamu, who is also an Executive Member of the World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPA), told our correspondent that all member Associations in East Africa are excited with the Ghana 2025 WESPA Championship bid and are ready to back it.
Adamu, the soft spoken, security expert who was at the Eastern tip of the continent at the weekend, explained that the Bid Committee that is made up of the finest scrabble administrators, sport stakeholders and government officials are working on a watertight bid that all will key in.
“We are working with all key stakeholders to make the bid come alive and we are talking with the Ghana Ministry of Tourism. The Sports Ministry is spearheading Ghana 2025 and the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) under the stewardship of Adekoyejo Adegbesan is pulling the right strings and knocking the right doors.” Haruna Adamu the CEO of Ojeyz Security Management stated.
And in a bid to create massive awareness and galvanize support for the Bid, the Scrabble Association of Ghana (SCAG), is staging a major national championship in January in Accra.
“Our numbers, our financial power and contribution to WESPA is a plus for the Ghana 2025 Bid the President of Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), Adekoyejo Adegbesan, stated.
He further stressed that PANASA as a block shall reach out to other member Associations of WESPA to give the ‘Ghana Bid’ which is a UNITED AFRICA BID their complete support. “It’s going to be tough but we shall succeed.” Adegbesan noted.
During his visit to Uganda, Haruna Adamu alongside Adekoyejo Adegbesan competed for honours at the Scrabble On The Nile Championship held at the Nile Nest Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District of Uganda with wordsmith from five African countries in attendance.
Kenya’s Allan Oyende was too strong for the 39 man strong cast from Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and host Uganda.
Oyende won 14 games with a staggering cumulative points of 1710 ahead of another Kenyan Bernard Koyyoko who recorded 13 wins from 18 rounds of games and a plus 805 points while Ivan Sentongo of Uganda came third with 12 wins and a cumulative points of plus 1314.
Liberia’s Roberts Alvin, Championship fifth seed, Richard Geria and Benard Amuke, all with 12 wins each just like Sentongo miss out of a podium finish due to lower cumulative points. Cecilia Ruto on the tenth spot on the final table with 11 wins and 275 points was the best female player in competition.
The President of the Scrabble Association of Uganda (SAU), Nelson Nyagera was on hand to present cash prizes to all the winners and special gift items to the PANASA President, Adekoyejo Adegbesan, SCAG President, who is also an Executive Committee member of WESPA, Haruna Adamu and others dignitaries who graced the two day championship.
