Amainyi Ancient Community Sets September 27 for 2026 Iriji Festival

The traditional ruler of Amainyi Ancient Community in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State, HRH Eze Pharm. Emeka Ogbonna (Inyi 3, Eze Ohazurumee), alongside his cabinet members, has announced the community’s readiness to celebrate its 2026 Iriji ancestral cultural fiesta.
The annual celebration is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 27, 2026 (Afo), at the Palace of the traditional ruler.
Speaking on the forthcoming event, Eze Ogbonna said the community had resolved to enrich this year’s cultural heritage celebration with intellectual discourse, in keeping with its commitment to promoting knowledge and preserving historical records.
According to him, the highlight of the event will be a lecture by the renowned scholar, Prof. Chidi Osuagwu, who will speak on the topic: “Naturalist Erima Social System and Omanachi Governance Model.”
The traditional ruler explained that the lecture would provide an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of indigenous social structures, traditional governance and the historical values of the community.
The celebration is also expected to feature colourful cultural dances, masquerade displays and a variety of traditional cuisines, adding glamour and excitement to the annual fiesta.
Given the significance of Iriji in preserving the cultural identity and ancestral heritage of the people, sons and daughters of Amainyi, particularly those residing outside the community, have been urged to return home and join their kinsmen in the celebration.
The community has equally extended an invitation to its in-laws, friends, associates and well-wishers to participate in the historic occasion and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Amainyi Ancient Community in Ihitte Uboma local government area of Imo State, Nigeria.
