Anambra First lady empowers 5,000 Anambra citizens

Dr. Nonye Soludo, Wife of the Anambra State Governor, has empowered 5,000 citizens across the state with equipment to improve their livelihoods, promote self-reliance, and strengthen household incomes.

Presenting the items under the theme, “Be Your Brother’s Keeper,” Soludo said the intervention was designed to help beneficiaries establish or expand small businesses and create sustainable income sources.

The empowerment items include ovens and baking equipment, sewing machines, hair dryers, mannequins, generating sets, grills, barbering equipment, makeup kits, refrigerators, piglets, poultry chicks, grinding machines, washing machines and tilling tools.

She said beneficiaries were selected through a screening process covering the 376 wards across the state to ensure the support reached people who genuinely needed it.

Soludo said the administration’s goal was to make residents self-reliant and better able to provide for themselves and their families.

She urged beneficiaries to utilize the equipment, train others, and replicate the programme’s impact within their communities.

The Governor’s wife disclosed that monitoring mechanisms had been established at the ward level to ensure the items were used for their intended purposes and to discourage beneficiaries from selling them.

Some beneficiaries, including Charles Okoye from Achina, Blessing Azuka from Dunukofia and Ngozi Onwuajanma, described the intervention as a significant form of direct empowerment and pledged to put the equipment to good use.
