NUGA boss thumbs up Sports Minister, Sunday Dare

By George Aluo

President of Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Prof Stephen Hamafyelto has given a pat on the back to Sports Minister, Sunday Dare who he described as vibrant personality.

The NUGA boss who spoke in Lagos on Thursday during the unveiling of the higher institutions football league (HiFL) 2021 season said with Dare on the saddle collaborating with government would be easy and seamless.

He noted that efforts made in the past to get government support and collaboration did not quite yield dividend, even as he added that with an organized and vibrant sports minister now in charge, things would definitely get better.

In his words…”we now have a sports minister in Dare who is vibrant, a sports minister who is interested in grassroots sports, a sports minister who wants to partner and collaborate with every genuine stakeholder. With Dare on the saddle we definitely won’t have any problem getting government to collaborate with us.”

On the HiFL 2021 season, Hamafyelto who works at the University of Maiduguri, said the various universities are ready to play host to the competition in line with Covid-19 protocols, insisting that there is nothing to worry about.

“We once again congratulate the organisers on finding new and inventive ways to connect both our students and the larger school community via innovative ideas in 2020 and remain optimistic of a more holistic engagement this year as schools all over resume academic activities”, Hamafyelto said.
