Ayobami Junior Abiodun belongs to the latter.
Born in Lagos, but a native of Ibadan, Oyo State, the first child and only son in a family of three children, Ayobami’s football story is one of purpose, perseverance and continuous growth. From humble beginnings, his talent took him through some of Nigeria’s most respected football development programmes before opening the door to Europe—an experience that would shape his identity as a midfielder.

His football foundation was laid at Pepsi Football Academy before further development at FuturePro. His potential eventually earned him a place in the academy system of Brighton & Hove Albion, where he was exposed to one of Europe’s most structured player development environments.

At Brighton, Ayobami didn’t simply learn football; he learned how to think it.
Every training session sharpened his tactical awareness, positional discipline and decision-making.

The European football culture demanded intelligence as much as ability, and it transformed him into a midfielder capable of controlling games rather than merely participating in them.

But unlike many players who build careers abroad, Ayobami brought that education back home.
Returning to Nigeria, he continued his professional journey with Kano Pillars, Kwara United and eventually Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), his boyhood club and a place he proudly calls home.

The European influence is unmistakable in his game.
Whether dictating the tempo from midfield, reading opposition movements or creating chances with intelligent passing, Ayobami has consistently demonstrated a level of composure and tactical maturity that reflects his football education.

His growing assist tally and influential performances are not products of luck or a temporary run of form; they are the result of years of disciplined development.

Across more than three seasons in the Nigeria Premier Football League, he has established himself as one of the league’s most dependable midfield operators.

Ayobami featured in the CAF Confederation Cup with both Kwara United and Kano Pillars, testing himself against clubs from across Africa. He also represented Nigeria during the U-23 Olympic qualifiers, working under respected coaches including Imama Amapakabo, Kennedy Boboye and Fidelis Ilechukwu—experiences that further expanded his football education.

Despite his achievements, his ambitions remain firmly fixed on the future.

“My dream is to represent Nigeria,” he says. “I want to play at the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup. I also hope to play professionally overseas again, whether in Europe or Asia.”

Today, wearing the colours of Shooting Stars carries special meaning.
“3SC has always been home for me,” he says. “I’m enjoying every moment here. The current board has been very supportive, especially regarding players’ welfare.

“Our ambition is clear; want to win the league or qualify for continental football.”
Playing in Ibadan also comes with one of Nigerian football’s most passionate fan, something Ayobami deeply appreciates.

“Ibadan football fans are lovely and supportive. They make every home game special by cheering us on throughout the match.”
Having played across several clubs and stadiums in Nigeria, Ayobami has developed a deep appreciation for the domestic league.

“The Nigerian league is very tough and highly competitive. One of its strengths is the quality of young players coming through. Every game challenges you.”

Away from football, he enjoys swimming, loves spaghetti and chicken, favours the colours blue and white, and supports Arsenal.

Yet it is on the pitch where his story continues to unfold.

It also earned him a deserved invitation to the Super Eagles for the Unity Cup in England, where he joined his Shooting Stars teammate, Tijani Al-Ameen, in taking another significant step on the international stage.
