Benjamin Uwajumogu State College of Education is poised for transformational education – Nwachukwu

Overwhelmed by the patriotic skills of her staff and management, coupled with their commitments in finding solutions to modern educational challenges, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Nwachukwu, the Acting Provost of Benjamin Uwajumogu (State) College of Education,(BUSCED) Ihitte Uboma in Imo State has reaffirmed that the tertiary institution is totally poised for transformational education excellence in Nigeria and the global communities at large.

Nwachukwu disclosed this on Thursday during the College well attended and organized 7th Matriculation Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session held at the institution’s open field arena.

The Acting Provost who was excited over the College confectionaries bakery entrepreneurial business venture skills that have made the College into producing quality and marketable BUSCED breads, small chops, meat pie etc that were strategically displayed at the Matriculation arena, and were equally appreciated and bought over by the personalities in attendance, including members of the host communities.

She pointed out that the BUSCED’S confectionaries business is one of the strategic means of increasing the noble institution’s internally generated revenue, assuring that in the next two months the institution’s hygienic satchet and bottled water will also be in the market.

According to her, ” I am equally pleased to inform you that, this institution is making significant strides in entrepreneurship, innovation, and internally generated ventures aimed at enhancing institutional sustainability and economic productivity.

“Our bakery industry, popularly known as BUSCED Bread, has continued to grow
remarkably and has become a source of pride to the institution.

“In addition, I am delighted to announce that within the next three months, our sachet water production industry will commence operations. These entrepreneurial initiatives are clear indications of our determination to build a self-reliant institution, capable of contributing
meaningfully to economic development while simultaneously providing practical
learning opportunities for our students” she assured.

She pointed out that the Matriculation event is not merely a ceremonial exercise; rather, it is a historic academic tradition that formally ushers their newly admitted students into the intellectual, moral, and cultural community of their noble institution.

“It marks the beginning of a transformational journey characterized by learning, self-discovery, discipline, character formation, and the pursuit of academic excellence. Indeed, for our matriculating students, today signifies the official commencement of a very important phase in your lives; a phase that will shape your future and prepare you for meaningful contributions to society and humanity at large”.

Nwachukwu further congratulated all the matriculating students, who she said secured admission into the institution through
determination, hard work, and merit, stressing that their admission was not
by accident but by divine providence and personal efforts.

She seriously admonished them, never to take the opportunity for granted.

The Acting Provost further expressed gratitude that the institution has continued to
record remarkable achievements in academic development, infrastructural expansion, institutional reforms, and entrepreneurial innovations.

According to her, “the College has steadily continued to move from strength to strength in her determined quest to attain enviable heights among institutions of higher learning in Nigeria and beyond.

“Presently, the College proudly offers forty-five (45) fully accredited programmes across
various Schools, including the School of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Sciences,
School of Vocational and Technical Education, School of Early Childhood Care
Education, School of Primary Education, and School of General Education.

“Furthermore, I am pleased to state that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria
(TRCN) has equally accredited our Professional Diploma in Education (PDE)
Programme, thereby further strengthening our mandate of producing professionally
competent and globally competitive educators.

The Acting Provost remarked that the programmes have been thoughtfully designed and carefully structured to meet
contemporary educational standards and emerging societal needs.

She reiterated that the primary objective of the College remains the production of competent, innovative, resourceful, and morally upright teachers capable of contributing meaningfully to national development and global educational advancement.

Anyanwu re-emphasized that, as the Acting Provost of the institution, that her mission and vision is to administer a College of Education that will remain first among equals; a College distinguished by academic excellence, innovation, discipline, integrity, productivity, and quality service delivery.

According to her, “I envision a College that will continue to make significant contributions to the advancement of society through teaching, research, community service, and human capital development; a College that is efficiently managed, self-reliant, technologically driven, globally competitive, and truly reflective of the ideals of a 21st-century institution of higher learning”.

She further expressed optimism that the matriculating students gained admission into the College at a most auspicious and transformative period in the history of the
institution, and passionately advised them on the need to key into the vision and become active participants in their collective effort towards building a stronger, greater, and more globally recognized institution.

The Academic Amazon equally expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma, CON,GSSR, the Executive Governor of Imo State, whose visionary leadership, unwavering commitment, and unprecedented support for the educational sector she noted have continued to
reposition institutions of higher learning within the state for excellence, growth, and sustainable
development.

“Your Excellency, your administration’s consistent interventions and goodwill towards this College remain highly commendable and deeply appreciated.

“Through your purposeful leadership and educational policies, this institution has continued to witness remarkable progress in academic development, infrastructural transformation,and institutional stability” she attested.

The Acting Provost further re-assured Governor Uzodimma that the management, staff, and students of the College remain committed to reciprocating these noble gestures through, dedication to excellence, discipline, productivity, and quality service delivery.

“We shall continue to uphold the ideals of scholarship, innovation, research, and community service in line with global best practices in teacher education” she assured.

Anyanwu also informed that Imo State Government has graciously approved a dual mandate policy for the College, which have empowered the institution to henceforth run both the Nigeria Certificate of Education, NCE and Degree programmes.

She described the dual mandate approval as a historical development, a turning point in the annals of the institution’s history, as well as a bold step towards broadening the College educational scope, increasing educational opportunities for Nigerian youths, and enhancing the College determination in providing quality teacher education in accordance with global standards and contemporary realities in higher education administration.

The Acting Provost further expressed optimism that the full implementation of the program will commence before the end of 2026 academic session, and that would usher the College into a new era of academic expansion and institutional advancement.

Anyanwu also commended the magnanimity of the State Government in extending scholarship opportunities to the newly admitted students of the institution, describing the noble gesture as a clear demonstration of the Shared Prosperity administration’s unwavering commitment towards promoting access to quality education, reducing financial burdens on parents and guardians, and encouraging academic excellence among youths.

Responding, Prof. Victor Nwachukwu, the State Commissioner for Tertiary and Technical Education said the 7th Matriculation Ceremony, marks not only the formal admission of another generation of scholars into the revered institution, but also a celebration of vision, resilience, institutional growth, and educational advancement in Imo State.

The Commissioner also specially acknowledged and appreciated the unwavering support of the administration of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, whom he described as education-friendly Governor, and whose commitments to educational transformation continues to reposition tertiary institutions across the State.

Nwachukwu reiterated that under the Governor’s purposeful and visionary leadership, that educational sector in the State has witnessed renewed attention, infrastructural renewal, policy support, improved learning environment, and strategic interventions aimed at restoring excellence and confidence in the State tertiary institutions.

“His administration has continued to demonstrate that education remains a vital pillar for sustainable development and human capital advancement”.

He commended the Provost and the entire management team of the College for their unity of purpose, administrative discipline, hard work, and exemplary decorum in piloting the affairs of the college.

“Your dedication has brought remarkable stability, visible progress, and renewed academic confidence to this institution.

“The peaceful working relationship among management, staff, and students has undoubtedly contributed to the steady achievements being recorded today” he noted.

The Commissioner also pointed out that leadership anchored on vision, cooperation, and accountability will always produce enduring results, and Benjamin Uwajumogu (State) College of Education, BUSCED is clearly a shining example.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the structural transformation visible across this campus is highly commendable. From improved academic facilities to infrastructural developments and a more conducive learning environment, the signs of growth are evident for everyone to see”.

Nwachukwu observed that the intervention projects facilitated through Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Tedfund have further strengthened the institution’s physical and academic capacity, reiterating that the interventions are helping to create an atmosphere that supports innovation, research, quality teaching, and the overall development of the College students and staff alike.

“One of the most significant milestones recorded by this institution is the academic breakthrough that culminated in its upgrade to a degree-awarding college.

“This achievement is historic and speaks volumes about the resilience, commitment, and academic credibility of the institution. It reflects the determination of the management and the support of government to ensure that the College attains greater relevance within the nation’s educational landscape.

“This accomplishment will undoubtedly expand opportunities for students and further elevate the prestige of the institution within and beyond Imo State” he affirmed.

He reminded the matriculating students, that the exercise have officially ushered them into a new phase of life that demands seriousness, discipline, integrity, and commitment to learning.

Nwachukwu further informed the matriculating students that they have entered an institution that is steadily rising in reputation and academic relevance, and encouraged them on the need to maximize every opportunity available to them in the institution.

He also enjoined them to be focused on their studies, respect the rules and values of the institution, build meaningful relationships, and develop themselves intellectually and morally.

The future he said belongs to young people who are prepared, innovative, responsible, and determined to succeed through legitimate means, and as ambassadors of the institution, they must uphold the good image and values of the college wherever they find themselves.

“Let your conduct reflect decency, hard work, respect, and excellence. Avoid every form of social vice capable of destroying your future and remain committed to becoming responsible citizens who will contribute positively to society.

“Remember always that education is not merely about certificates, but about character, knowledge, service, and leadership”.

The Commissioner further congratulated the Provost, management, staff, governing council, parents, and especially the matriculating students, and equally prayed for the growth of the institution from strength to strength in academic excellence, infrastructural advancement, and moral development.

He re-emphasized the commitments of his Ministry in continued support towards sustaining quality education in the State.
