National Assemblies Inauguration Accident: How Prince Ohanwe Cheated Death by Whiskers

From Everest Ezihe, Owerri

Prince Saviour Chinemerem Ohanwe, is the second son of HRH Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanwe, Obigburugburu of Igboland and the Paramount Ruler of Osuama ancient kingdom in Isiala Mbano council area of Imo State and was among the officiial delegates of the state APC family that left the State party Secretariat, Owerri on Monday morning to Abuja to witness the Tuesday inauguration of the 10th national assemblies members.

Barely few hours they left, news filtered into the state through the social media that one of the buses carrying 6 delegates had a fatal accident in Delta State and 3 persons died instantly while the other 3 with the driver sustained serious injuries and have been taken to hospital.

Prince Ohanwe was one of the APC delegate’s that survived the accident but contrary to the initial news, the number of deaths was 4 as only him, one Stanley from Onuimo and the driver survived, though with injuries while giving vivid account of what happened.

According to the Prince of Osuama ancient kingdom…”Yes, I was in the accidented car, in which 4 souls lost their lives and may their souls rest in peace, Amen. Am alive today, because am a child of destiny and grace.

“The front tyre of the Hilux Toyota bus busted as the driver was speeding between 140 – 150 klm per hour. Unfortunately, the driver was at this high speed level even when he knows too well that his tyres are bad. At Iseleuku community of Delta State, around Asaba by pass the vehicle somersaulted in quick successions for more than 7 times from the highway into the bush. We were 6 passengers in the chartered bus that left Owerri to Abuja from APC State Secretariat office.

“The driver got serious injuries, we were only 6 passengers, the other 4 instantly passed away. It was only me and one other man from Onuimo LGA called Stanley and the driver that were survivors of the fatal accident.

“The vehicle right from Owerri showed signs of incapacitation, we started working on the tyre right from Owerri, physically, the bus was a write off. Once I saw the bus, my spirit rejected it and told me that the bus cannot make it to Abuja, I complained just like others but we where ignored.

” Me felt it was my military experiences as one time member of US Marine Army that helped me. However, I give the credit of my survival to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God of the old. That was the name I was calling while most of us in the bus where shouting blood of Jesus ! And Jesus Christ !!. I have often told people that Jesus Christ is not God. The name Jesus Christ is a name ancient Roman leaders gave to Him as His original name is Yeshua and He was not a Christian, from my experiences and studies in life, the name of true God is Elshadai or Elohi.

“Experiences and studies have shown me that, when you are in difficulties, if you like call the name, Jesus Christ from now till tomorrow what will happen will happen but when you call God His real names He will hear you and answer you immediately.

“Even though I sustained injuries, but without the help of any body I came out through the broken window… no body helped, no one rescued us, as I came out, I made efforts to assist others especially the lady that came from Port Harcourt and joined us, it was too late as she was dead. I tried seriously helping a man who said he was from Isiala Mbano, he was the man that took my seat  when we stopped and ate at Head Bridge, Onitsha, when we came back from the short break  and I found him relaxing with this ambience of entitlement mentality, I had wanted to tell him, to please go back to your seat, a little voice in me told me to keep quiet and leave the man alone. More so because of the discipline, moral  respect my parents and other family members inculcated in us, I decided to allow the sleeping dog lie and immediately resolved to go to the back seat where no body else is seating and lie down.”

“Fortunately, that was where I was when the front tyre busted and the driver couldn’t control the steering because the vehicle was on a high speed. From my military experiences I brazed myself properly and knelt down. As the car was tumbling, my head  was hitting on the rooftop. That is why, I had injuries in the head, hands and several parts of my body,” he narrated.

He lamented that as at the time of granting this interview, no party leader nor the state government official have deemed it necessary to at least call or visit him save for his father that has shown persistent concerns and footing of his medical bills and other logistics.

The Prince, however was optimistic that probably after the inauguration activities they will find time to see him even as he emphasized that he is having an accelerated recuperation.
