Governor of Ekiti State Biodun Oyebanji, has congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Osun state governor.
Adeleke, candidate of the Accord Party was declared winner of the August 15 Osun governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday morning.
In a statement by Yinka Oyebode, his special adviser on media, Oyebanji described Adeleke’s victory as a reflection of the wishes of the majority of Osun voters.
He urged Adeleke to be magnanimous in victory and reach out to other contestants for their input in the administration of the state.
“This is democracy and majority of Osun voters have expressed their preference for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke,” Oyebanji said.
“Congratulations to Governor Adeleke on the electoral victory. I urge him to be magnanimous in victory and carry other contestants along in the task of building a more prosperous Osun State.”
Oyebanji also praised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as providing a level playing field for all contestants in the state
He said the development helped reduce tension and contributed to making the contest credible.
“We must specially appreciate President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for providing a level playing ground for all the contestants.
“This singular act of the President reduced tension and made the contest a credible one,” he said.
The Ekiti governor also commended INEC and security agencies for what he described as a job well done.
Oyebanji also congratulated Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, for putting up what he described as a strong challenge in the election.
He urged Osun APC members to accept the outcome and return to the drawing board ahead of future elections.
However, Oyebanji said Adeleke’s victory should not be interpreted as a rejection of Tinubu or the APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“The outcome of the Osun Governorship election should not be misinterpreted as a true reflection of Osun people about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Certainly not,” he added.
“The people of Osun will massively vote for President Tinubu in the 2027 election”, he concluded.
