Chief Executive Officer Yetunde Olopade Commends Elite and Grassroots Interest, Calls on South-East and South-South Athletes to Register_
The 2nd edition of the Enugu City International Marathon is witnessing a massive wave of athlete registrations as elite, local, and international runners intensify preparations for the August 29 race.
Organized by Nilayo Sports Management with the backing of the Enugu State Government, the marathon is fast gaining traction as a premier Gold Label-style road race designed to drive tourism, youth engagement, and economic growth in the South-East.
Speaking on the turnout, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, CEO of Nilayo Sports Management, said she is encouraged by the level of interest from athletes across Nigeria and beyond.
“I am really impressed with the registration turnout. Both local and international athletes and elite athletes have been trooping out to register for this Marathon and I must say I am impressed,” Mrs. Olopade stated.
She noted that the surge reflects growing confidence in the Enugu City Marathon as a competitive platform with international standards and substantial rewards for top performers.
With registration still ongoing, Mrs. Olopade urged young and talented runners from the region to seize the opportunity.
“I still want to use this medium to call on young and talented athletes from the South-South and South-East region to go out and register as registration is still ongoing,” she said.
The call aligns with the event’s objective of discovering new talent and giving Nigerian athletes a platform to compete and earn on home soil.
The 42km elite marathon will flag off at 6:30AM from ShopRite, Abakaliki Road, cutting across Enugu’s major landmarks. The 10km Fun Run starts at 8:30AM from Chris Tee Petrol Station, CIC Road and ends at Opara Square by 12:30PM.
Organizers confirm that logistics, security, medical support, and elite athlete hospitality are all in advanced stages ahead of race day. Registration remains open at www.enugucitymarathon.com.
