..5-Day Pre-Race Festival Set to Energize Enugu Ahead of Marathon Day
The countdown continues. With 8 days to go to the 2nd Enugu City International Marathon, organizers have announced a 5-day Marathon Expo set to take place from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, 2026 at the iconic Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.
The Expo will serve as the official prelude to race day on Saturday, August 29, 2026, bringing together athletes, sponsors, government officials, and thousands of running enthusiasts for a week of activity, engagement, and celebration.
The Michael Okpara Square Expo will be the official kit collection center for all registered participants in both the 42km elite race and 10km fun run.
Runners are required to pick up their race bibs, timing chips, and official kits at the venue during the 5-day window.
Beyond logistics, the Expo is designed as a full-scale experience. It will feature: Sponsor activations and brand showcases, Health, fitness, and wellness booths, Sports merchandise and local vendor exhibitions, Fan zones, entertainment, and cultural displays.
“The Marathon Expo is where the spirit of the race comes alive,” a spokesperson for Nilayo Sports Management said.
“For five days, Michael Okpara Square will be the meeting point for athletes preparing to compete and for the people of Enugu to connect with the energy of a world-class sporting event.”
Supported by the Enugu State Government, the 5-day program is also expected to drive commerce and tourism in the Coal City.
Local businesses, artisans, and hospitality partners will benefit from the influx of visitors, further positioning Enugu as a hub for sports and culture in West Africa.
The Expo will run daily and is free to the public.
The week will build to a crescendo with the Enugu City International Marathon World Press Conference on Thursday, August 28, 2026 where final logistics, security, and prize details will be unveiled.

42km Elite Marathon_: 6:30AM | Flag-off at ShopRite, Abakaliki Road
10km Fun Run: 8:30AM | Start at Chris Tee Petrol Station, CIC Road to finish at Opara Square
The Expo dates are now locked in, and Enugu is officially in marathon mode. Five days of energy, culture, and community will lead into the biggest road race in the city’s history.
