FA Cup final: Go Round FC fail to swim out of Rivers

Go Round FC’s run to represent Rivers State in the Federation Cup came to an end after a penalty loss to Rivers United at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Rivers United had their first real opening in the 7th minute as Paul Acquah scored from a rebound after Chizoba Uwandu had punched a shot to put Rivers United in front.

Go Round FC showed desire as they tried to get back into the game with Midfield duels, but had issues with the final ball.

Luck soon shone on Go Round FC in the 33rd minute as Prince Chinda was right there in the box to tap home for an equalizer during a goalmouth melee.

Both sides continued from where they stopped in the second half, with Go Round FC being more cautious of the crosses from Rivers United as efforts from the NPFL side to score proved abortive.

The game went on to penalties with Go Round Fc missing the first spot kick which gave an advantage to Rivers United who scored all their spot kicks to win 5-4 although the last kick was asked to be retaken after Shedrack Oghali booted it sky high.

The Assistant Referee signaled that the goalkeeper, Uwandu Chizoba had left the line before the kick was taken. A replay was ordered.

After a few minutes of dispute, Shadrack scored the kick that saw Rivers United winning the game.

Rivers United will now represent Rivers State at the Federation Cup as only one representatives will represent each State according to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) directives.
