Pro-Wrestling training kicks off in Togo

History was made on Friday, March 1, 2024 when a wrestling training was flagged off in Lome, the Togolese Capital.

The training which is presently going on inside the conference room of the Kegué Stadium, Kegue, Lome was not only organised to keep fighters in the West African sub- region abreast of the most modern techniques in the mats man game but is also used to officially introduce the sports to that country which before now does not have professional wrestling.

Scheduled to take place over three days, the opening ceremony attracted the presence of the Secretary General of the Pro- Wrestling Africa (PWA) which is the African Wrestling Confederation, Olusesan Olukoya, the President of the Togolese Wrestling Association, Habib Adam, the coach of Togolese athletes and athletes from countries of the sub-region.

The presence of the reigning PWA African light heavy weight champion and title holder in the person of Augustine Okafor A.K.A Mr.Sharpman added glamour to the training.

Declaring the training open, the Secretary General of the continental body, Olusesan Olukoya noted that the objective of the training is to promote wrestling in the West African sub-region.

According to him, young Africans must avail themselves of the opportunity because it’s a profession of the future and they can make a lot of money from it.

“We’re organising this training in order to further popularize the sports in the West African sub-region and give opportunity to those countries that are yet to have a feel of the sports to develop it in their various countries.

“The sports is a profession for the future and if well developed can create employment opportunities for the youths as it’s witnessed in Europe and America. By creating employment opportunities, it will enable young Africans make money and become self reliant”, he explained.

For the President of the Togolese Wrestling Association, the objective is to popularize the sports and make the Togolese public love it just as he expressed optimism that the sports have come to stay in his country.

After the training, various, demonstrations of the combat sport are planned, which promises to be a spectacle according to Habib Adam. As a reminder, the training will end on March 3.
