African Games: Amusan wins Women’s 100m hurdles, anchors 4x100m team to gold
World record holder Tobi Amusan proved book makers right when she won gold in the women’s 100-metre hurdles at the ongoing African Games in Accra, Ghana, on Wednesday.
She went into the race as the absolute favourite, got a yellow card, and lined up again after beating the gun for the first time due to the noise of the crowd in the stadium.
The gun went off for the second time, but this time, she nailed the start, flying to an easy win and clocking a time of 12.89s.
With the win, Amusan completed a hat-trick of African Games titles, having won the last two editions in Congo Brazzaville. She also defeated Sidonie Fiadanantsoa, who ran 13.19s to finish second, and Zimbabwe’s Ashley Tinashe Kamangirirain, who ran 13.59s.
The second Nigerian athlete in the race, Faith Osamuyi, just missed out on a podium finish as she ran 13.77s ito place 4th .
Amusan later anchored the Nigerian women’s 4x100m to gold again at the African Games in Ghana, absolutely destroying the field in a time of 43.06s.
She combined with Justina Eyakpobeyan, Olajide Olayinka, and Fore Abinusawa to bring the country home in glory!
Liberia, who were the fastest in qualifying, and Ghana were no match for the Nigerian team.
