FIE Moves Closer to Governance Excellence with A2 Rating in Latest ASOIF Assessment

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 12, 2026 – The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has achieved the A2 governance rating according to the latest data published by the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF). In the previous report, published in 2024, the FIE received a B rating.

As announced on 10 June, ASOIF’s Sixth Review of International Federation (IF) Governancerecognised the key improvements being made by the FIE across important areas such as transparency, integrity, democracy, development and sustainability, and control mechanisms.

The ASOIF Governance Task Force (GTF) began its latest review in October 2025. All 36 ASOIF Full and Associate Members submitted questionnaires consisting of 60 indicators, followed by an independent review phase conducted by third-party governance consultancy I Trust Sport.

The ranking is testament to the solid progress being made by the FIE in a number of key areas in line with our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan. The FIE is on year two of the implementation of the Strategic Plan, which emphasises governance, technological integration, athlete engagement, safeguarding, gender equality, education, sustainability, and cooperation with partners such as the IOC, ASOIF, National Federations (NFs) and others.

“The FIE considers good governance as a top priority and has been working hard to promote a culture of innovation and organisational excellence for our sport,” said FIE President-Interim Abdelmoneim ElHusseiny. “While we are pleased with the A2 rating, this is only the beginning, with our next goal being to achieve the A1 standard. And for that to happen we will continue working to realise our vision of becoming a benchmark of institutional excellence among Olympic Movement stakeholders.

“We have begun analysing the detailed breakdown of the findings from ASOIF, which we will then use to further accelerate our progress in this area.”
