Finals of 21st Bishop Mike Okonkwo football tournament holds Saturday In Lagos

All roads will on Saturday, August, 29, 2026, lead to the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos for this year’s finals of the annual Bishop Mike Okonkwo football tournament.

The longest running grassroots football championship in the country which is in its 21st edition will see defending champions, Rehoboth Fc meeting Believers Fc in what promises to be an entertaining finals.

To get to the finals, Rehoboth, defeated Future Stars 99 Fc 1-0 while Believers Fc despatched Giggson Fc 3-1 in the second semi- final clash decided at Bridge Institute ( NITEL) playground, Oshodi.

The game will be preceded by the women finals which will be between Wabbak Fc and Future Stars 99 Fc.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s finals, Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee of the competition, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor, said that all logistics have been put in place to ensure a successful finals just as he promised fans that they’ll enjoy the best of football.

Ndubuzor who stated that he’s happy with the quality of football displayed by all the teams since the commencement of this year’s tournament announced that some ex- internationals will be on ground to serve as role models for the players.

“We’re ready to deliver another interesting finals which this tournament is noted for. All logistics have been put in place for a successful finals and we have invited some ex- internationals who will be coming to serve as role models for the players.

The MOC Chairman expressed happiness that the tournament which was an initiative of the presiding Bishop of ‘The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo has opened doors for many players who are now household names in the country’s football.

” I must thank our Daddy in the Lord, Bishop Mike Okonkwo for not only initiating this tournament as a way of helping the youths achieve their potentials in the round leather game, but has sustained it for more than two decades which is unprecedented in football sponsorship in this country”, he stressed.

He also announced that winners will go home with giant trophies, cash and medals while there will be individual awards

The finals will also be used to mark the birthday of Bishop Mike Okonkwo.

A total of 32 male and 8 female teams registered for the tournament which was played on home and away basis before getting to the finals.
