Gusau’s Grassroots Vision Will Secure Nigeria’s Football Future – 4+4 Southwest Coordinator
The South-West Coordinator of the Gusau 4+4 Solidarity Forum, Ade Segun, has described the grassroots football development vision of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau as a strategic initiative aimed at laying a solid foundation for the future of Nigerian football.
Speaking after reviewing preparations for the forthcoming Gusau/Allan Pre-season Tournament, which is scheduled to kick off soon in Katsina State, Ade said Ibrahim Gusau has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to grassroots football development since assuming office as President of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2022.
According to him, the NFF under Gusau has deliberately shifted attention to one of the most critical but previously under-emphasized aspects of Nigerian football by creating structures that prioritize talent discovery, youth participation, and sustainable football development.
He noted that over the past four years, Gusau’s administration has introduced and strengthened programmes designed to identify and nurture young football talents across the country.
Ade described the Gusau/Allan Pre-season Tournament as one of the flagship grassroots initiatives of the current NFF leadership, alongside several other developmental programmes aimed at strengthening domestic football structures, particularly at the amateur and youth levels.
He said the NFF President understands that Nigeria’s football future depends largely on the vast pool of untapped talents spread across communities, schools and local football clubs.
According to him, the federation has continued to support initiatives that provide young players with platforms to display their abilities and attract opportunities for further development.
He pointed out that competitions such as the Nationwide League One (NLO) and several grassroots tournaments across the Federal Capital Territory and different states have received greater attention under Gusau’s administration, creating more opportunities for emerging footballers to showcase their talents.
Ade also praised the NFF leadership for strengthening collaboration with state football associations, describing the partnership as a major step towards decentralizing football development and ensuring that talent identification reaches every part of the country.
He urged football stakeholders nationwide to support Ibrahim Gusau’s re-election as NFF President, saying continuity would help consolidate the progress already made in grassroots football development while guaranteeing a brighter future for the nation’s game.
“Gusau’s efforts will usher in a new generation of Nigerian football stars who rise from well-developed grassroots systems to shine on the global stage,” Ade concluded.
