By Ifeanyi Eduzor
Former World Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion, Bash Ali says he has not given up hope of having his Guinness Book of World record fight in the country and will soon prove his critics wrong.
According to him, although the historic fight was put on hold because of non financial commitment by the government and corporate organisations but was optimistic that the present government will do the needful by sponsoring the fight as he intends to write the country’s name in gold.
” I want to assure Nigerians that we’re still on course to rewrite boxing history. It’s true that the plan has faced some challenges due to lack of financial commitment by previous governments but all hope is not lost as I sincerely believe that the present administration will do the needful and support my dream of becoming the oldest man to win a world boxing title.
” There’s no doubt that the journey has been tough and rough so far because of acts of sabotage by some individuals who are bent on frustrating the fight but we’re going to shame our critics and detractors at the end of the day and prove to the world that Bash Ali is the greatest and best thing to happen in boxing”, he stressed.
Meanwhile, Bash Ali has commended the Secretary General of Pro Wrestling Africa ( PWA), Sesan Olukoya for his untiring effort in moving the mats man game forward and the support he has given him in his plans to shock the wrestling world vowing that he will ensure that the wrestling scribe is honoured whenever his world record fight takes place.
” Not many people are aware that I started as a wrestler before switching over to boxing and the General Secretary of Pro- Wrestling Africa ( PWA) has always been there to support me and his efforts must be appreciated.
“Whenever my world record title fight takes place or during activities for the historic fight, I must ensure that a wrestling dinner is organised on his honour where hopefully the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will give him a well deserved national honour in recognition of his contributions to the world of wrestling in particular and sports in general”, he concluded.
