In line with her commitments of being objectively steadfast and critical as the main opposition political party in Imo State, People’s Democratic Party, PDP has outlined litany of faults associated with Governor Hope Uzodimma of All Progressive Congress, APC led Shared Prosperity and 3R administrative mantra against the state and her populace.
Mr. Collins Opuruozor, the State Publicity Secretary of PDP flanked by Mr.Greg Nwadike, the Party’s State Youth Leader and Mr. Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu, the Director General, New Media Samuel Anyanwu Governorship Campaign Council, disclosed these during a well attended world press conference organized by the political party over the weekend at the Okigwe road, Owerri State party Secretariat.
Opuruozor observed that the essence of the press briefing is in keeping with the political party’s longstanding solidarity with the working men and women of the State, who he alleged have been subjected to the most primitive forms of oppression, deprivation, bellicosity, cruelty, violent attacks and misery by the APC led government of Senator Hope Uzodinma for the last three years and five months.
According to him, “this moment calls for patriotism and sincere reawakening of the core values which underlies our common humanity. Imo State has now witnessed a sharp descent into full-blown tyranny, where even the institutions of state have been debased and deployed for the total destruction of society and humanity. Nothing is sacred anymore. State-sanctioned shootings have been carried out in the House of God at Nkwerre” he alleged.
The Imo State PDP Spokesperson further accused the State administration of making human life in the state to mean nothing, alleging also that, ” Innocent citizens are being slaughtered daily in cold blood just like rams, while those who have the responsiblities of protecting lives look the other way. In most instances, agents and militiamen of the government have been generally accused of directly perpetrating the killings, like the brutal murder of fourteen wedding guests from Otulu at Awo-Omamma and the killings and bombings at the residence of Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere in Akokwa, and many others” he alleged.
He also allegedly lamented that, “today Imo workers are not just denied their salaries, they are further brutally attacked, while aged pensioners are humiliated and flogged like beasts, even when their pensions are as well heartlessly denied. The journalist who had gone to film a protest by unpaid workers was beaten to a pulp by agents of the APC administration, in front of the Government House. Recall that another journalist, a nursing mother, working with the government-owned IBC was sacked simply because she dared to request for her over one year salary arrears in order to care for her new born baby. This is heartbreaking !” he further alleged.
Opuruozor passionately appealed to the populace on the need for them to get up very urgently and fold up their sleeves in order to reclaim the land from the alleged inhuman government of Senator Uzodimma so as to allegedly avert involvement of the state into administrative doom.
The Spokesperson also alleged that, “within the last two months, Imo State has been shut down twice by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), other affiliate unions in the State have twice embarked on strikes. Aviation operations have been grounded twice. Electricity supply to Imo has been cut off twice.
“Also, financial institutions have halted all activities twice, thereby crippling the economy of the State. As we gather here, Imo is in total blackout. All businesses have been strangulated. Imo has become a pariah state, cut off from the rest of Nigeria. This is catastrophic !” he alleged.
He further accused the State government of unjustly declaring so many workers and pensioners as ghost workers and pensioners respectively while insisting that most of them have died because of sufferings allegedly melted on then by the State government.
Opuruozor while soliciting the cooperation of workers and other Imo State citizens in the party’s committed efforts to wrestle power from the APC government in the forthcoming November 11th INEC scheduled segmented governorship election, reassured them of an inclusive and purposeful governance if the party gets their mandate.
Swiftly, Nwadike reaccused the state government of unjustly meddling in internal affairs of the workers unions in the state, thus creating factionalization like NUJ, IPAN, IPAC, NULGE among others.
He said it point blank that no responsible government can interfere in internal matters concerning the workers union but to create enabling environment that would jettison strifes.
