Eagles in another lethargic performance against Sierra Leone

By George Aluo
Super Eagles today managed a 2-1 victory over Sierra Leone in their first AFCON 2023 qualifying encounter.
The game was one in which the players failed to put up a brilliant showing.
In fact they had to come from behind to win courtesy of Victor Osimhen’s effort.
Sierra Leone took the lead early when Jonathan Morsey nodded in a diving header. They almost went two goals up minutes later but Morsey’s close range shot hit the woodwork with Uzoho already beaten.
Alex Iwobi got Eagles equalizer in the 16th minute. Osimhen jabbed in the winner from close range in the 40th minute.
In the second half both sides failed to score and in a bid to stop Sierra Leone from equalizing the Eagles resorted to time wasting. Uzoho got a yellow in the process.
New Eagles manager, Peseiro had before today’s game lost his first two games with the team against Mexico and Ecuador in America.
