Defending champion and rave of the moment Abdulmumeen Jimoh is set to have a busy period as jammers converge for the Lekki Scrabble Classics which begins this Saturday in Lagos.
Contenders will compete in two main Divisions of A and B as the tournament will end on Sunday.
The soft-spoken Scrabble Assassin has been on rampage in recent times mopping up titles wherever his name was listed as a contender in any championship.
He would however be confronted with an immediate Herculean task of re-establishing his status at the Classics where many would be aiming for the title which he coveted last year.
Observers believed the Gov.Diri Douye champion is well primed to rise to the top of the cream after 18 round of games but as some would say, the scrabble bag promises you nothing.
Jimoh will begin his journey with a first round encounter against Khaleel “Dynamite” Adedeji at the magnificent venue at the Peninsula Hotel.
Other top contenders are Grand Master John Ayedun, current African champion Oluwatimilehin Doko, Tega Okiemute, Hakeem Olaribigbe and Ghana ‘s Charles Tachie-Menson who claimed the title in 2024.
The two-day championship will also witness the introduction of the Children Category for U-12 which the organisers have described as a strategic platform at discovering and nurturing younglings for the future.

The tournament has been rated by the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) and the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA).
